From Swim Lessons to Surfing Waves

Hey you,

This week was a mix of little wins, big family moments, and a reminder that confidence really does change the game.

One Thing to Think About This Week

Ledger had his very first swim lessons. Ten minutes. Full of tears. Full of bravery.

I realized something as I watched him cry through it — sometimes doing the thing isn’t about being comfortable, it’s about learning to trust the process. By day five, he was floating on his back (with her hands holding his head… reluctantly, but progress is progress).

Confidence often shows up after we try — not before.

Celebrate Your Wins

  • I said yes to wake surfing — something I’d usually sit out.
  • And guess what? I got up on my first try ish. Fell a few times, of course, but once I trusted myself, it clicked.
  • Sometimes the win isn’t in mastering it — it’s in deciding to try.

Productivity Hack of the Week

I’ve been re-working my fitness programming. Without a clear event (like Deka Fit), it’s easy to coast. But I realized that what keeps me consistent isn’t just the workouts — it’s the structure.

Tip: If you feel unmotivated, set a “placeholder structure.” For me, that looks like:

  • 3 runs per week
  • 2-3 strength days
  • Even if the when changes, the what stays the same.

What I’m Into This Week

Life Snapshot

  • Ledger cried through swim lessons, but he’s learning. Stranger danger is real at 16 months, but so is bravery.
  • Family time was non-stop — boat days, arcade days, breakfast tacos, and even neighbors jumping in with bikes and candy bars.
  • Hosting can be anxiety driven if you allow it, but if you let life happen instead, it’s more joyful than anything else. Our house has felt full in the best way.

One Last Thing

Confidence isn’t built on the sidelines. It’s built mid-wipeout, mid-cry, mid-“this is scary.”

If Ledger can face the pool and I can face a wake board, then maybe this week you can face the thing you’ve been putting off.

Fun P.S.

We tossed Mads and Eron a drink while they were surfing… and they actually caught it and drank it on the wave. Absolute legends.

Here’s to facing the wipeouts, the tears, and the first tries. That’s where the fun (and the growth) lives.

Hey you, This week was a mix of wins, lessons, and a little bit of chaos — just how I like it. I got promoted at work (still riding that high 🙌), crushed a 6-mile run I was so close to skipping, and had one of those simple, joy-filled moments that reminded me what all this “balance” stuff is about. We stopped by our neighbor’s house before a community event, and Ledger met their dog, Denver. They became instant best friends — running around, laughing, playing fetch. He hasn’t had a fetch...

Hey you, I did a thing. I registered for the Austin Marathon. Blame (thank!) Zane hyping me up, the video of the 80-year-old Ironman finisher, my neighbor reminding me you can walk-jog it, and my bestie Mike saying he’ll run it at my pace if he’s free. 🥹 Community is everything—and honestly, it’s why I fell in love with running in the first place. Also… Mads started running too. Heart = full. One Thing to Think About This Week Borrowed belief is still belief. When your own motivation dips,...

Hey you, We’re back home in Austin, Texas. We got in last night around 7:30 p.m.—too late to see Ledger before bed—but we got our morning snuggles in today, and that alone made the whole trip worth it. This week was all about family, celebration, and a little bit of altitude-induced humility. We flew to Colorado Springs for my cousin’s wedding, where I had the honor of being a groomswoman. One Thing to Think About This Week Weddings always remind me of what really matters—connection,...
