Living Life for the First Time (and Figuring It Out)

Hey you,

This week I stumbled on a quote that I can’t stop thinking about:

“We’re all just living life for the first time.”

What. A. Quote. Right?

No wonder we’re confused. Between spam calls that make me question if it’s Ledger’s daycare or “your car’s extended warranty,” endless conflicting studies (is coffee saving us or killing us?), and headlines that make trust feel like a luxury… it’s hard to know what’s real anymore.

Here’s what I’ve landed on: be diligent, be mindful, but most of all—listen to your gut. If you love coffee, drink the coffee. If you seek good, you’ll find it. If you seek bad, you’ll find that too.

One Thing to Think About This Week

Fear. Tim Ferriss’ “Fear Setting” exercise reminded me that most of what I don’t do—whether it’s chasing a challenge, waking up early, or even starting something I’ve been dreaming about—comes back to fear.

Fear of failing.

Fear of missing moments with Ledger.

Fear of running out of time.

But here’s the reframe: doing nothing has a cost too. Inaction drains us emotionally, physically, and financially. So I’m asking myself: If I avoided this out of fear… what might my life look like in 6 months? In 1 year? In 3 years?

Celebrate Your Wins

DEKA Fit is behind me, and now my eyes are on the next challenge: Run for the Water in November. It’s a 10-mile run that funds clean water systems in Burundi—literally turning our miles into movement for change. A win for me, and hopefully a win for a whole community across the world. (i haven't registered yet, but putting it here.... means it's go time. Anyone in Austin want to run with me?)

Productivity Hack of the Week

Ali Abdaal’s “Ideal Week” exercise is a game changer. You map out where your hours actually go (work, sleep, chores, family), and then design what your ideal week would look like.

One thing I realized? Cooking is eating up way too much time. My plan: prep meat and veggies on Sundays, and throw meals together during the week. Did I start it yet? Nope. But stay tuned. :)

What I’m Into This Week

  • App: Runna has been helping me with my running, strength programming. 2 free weeks: RUNNAX6E4UL1
  • Idea: Fear Setting by Tim Ferriss. Hard truths, but freeing.
  • Tool: The Ideal Week by Ali Abdaal — eye-opening for anyone feeling time-poor.

Life Snapshot

Madison’s mom was in town, which meant football (Go Big Red, Go Chiefs), and a family trip to The Thinkery where Ledger lit up exploring everything. His brain is in overdrive lately—he loves to figure things out, just like me. Watching him problem-solve reminds me why I love coaching: I want to help people figure themselves out too. You love something? Let’s make space for it. Life’s too short not to.

One Last Thing

We’ve got about 100 days left in 2025. Time isn’t slowing down—it feels like it’s speeding up. I’m 41, which some might say means I’m 41% complete. If that’s true, I’ve still got a lot left I want to do—and the only time to start is now.

So, what’s one thing you’ve been holding off on because of fear or “not enough time”? Can you take one small step toward it this week?

Fun P.S.

Friday night we went out with friends, grabbed a final round at a bar near home, and met a guy named Michael. Somehow, our sports banter gave him the confidence to bet on Nebraska against Michigan. Yikes. Sorry, Michael… we lost but man was that a great game to watch.

Here’s to living life—messy, real, and for the first time.

See you next Sunday,

Trina

Hey you, This week was a mix of wins, lessons, and a little bit of chaos — just how I like it. I got promoted at work (still riding that high 🙌), crushed a 6-mile run I was so close to skipping, and had one of those simple, joy-filled moments that reminded me what all this “balance” stuff is about. We stopped by our neighbor’s house before a community event, and Ledger met their dog, Denver. They became instant best friends — running around, laughing, playing fetch. He hasn’t had a fetch...

Hey you, I did a thing. I registered for the Austin Marathon. Blame (thank!) Zane hyping me up, the video of the 80-year-old Ironman finisher, my neighbor reminding me you can walk-jog it, and my bestie Mike saying he’ll run it at my pace if he’s free. 🥹 Community is everything—and honestly, it’s why I fell in love with running in the first place. Also… Mads started running too. Heart = full. One Thing to Think About This Week Borrowed belief is still belief. When your own motivation dips,...

Hey you, We’re back home in Austin, Texas. We got in last night around 7:30 p.m.—too late to see Ledger before bed—but we got our morning snuggles in today, and that alone made the whole trip worth it. This week was all about family, celebration, and a little bit of altitude-induced humility. We flew to Colorado Springs for my cousin’s wedding, where I had the honor of being a groomswoman. One Thing to Think About This Week Weddings always remind me of what really matters—connection,...
