When January Forces You to Chill (But You’re Still Moving Forward)

Hey you,

This week was a reminder that life doesn’t always follow the plan we set on January 1st. Sometimes you’re ready to go hard… and instead, you’re forced to slow way down.

And least, that’s exactly what happened over here.

One Thing to Think About This Week

I had one of those quiet realizations while dropping Ledger off at daycare.

The teachers were so excited to see him again after winter break. He was excited. And I realized, getting out of the house in the morning matters way more than I give it credit for.

Even on work-from-home days. Maybe even especially on work-from-home days.

The sunshine. The music. Talking out loud to my journal in the car. A podcast playing. Dogs along for the ride. It sets my entire nervous system up better than rolling straight from parenting into Slack messages.

Something Tony Robbins said on Diary of a CEO stuck with me:

How do you turn one of your worst days into one of your best days?

For me, it’s not about perfection. It’s about asking:

How can I make today more enjoyable… right now, with what I have?

Not someday. Not when things calm down. Today.

Celebrate Your Wins

This week’s wins weren’t loud—but they mattered:

  • Choosing rest instead of forcing workouts while recovering from the flu
  • Still keeping my mindset strong even when my body wasn’t ready
  • Showing up for my family and adjusting without spiraling

Sometimes the win is not quitting just because the plan changed.

Productivity Hack of the Week

Do it imperfectly, or don’t do it at all. Choose imperfect.

I didn’t have my ideal journaling setup this week. No notebook. No quiet room. No aesthetic moment.

So I talked.

Out loud. In the car. Into my phone. And you know what?

85% done is infinitely better than 0%.

If you’re waiting for perfect conditions to start again, this is your sign to stop waiting.

What I’m Into This Week

  • Podcast: Diary of a CEO with Tony Robbins — mindset gold, especially around reframing tough days
  • Drink: Recess Mood — calming, magnesium-based, and perfect for recovery (Code: trinaberks saves you $)
  • Sleep Meditation: I listen to something every single night to help me sleep. Lately it’s been this sleep meditation, and it’s been clutch. I'm asleep within 2 minutes every time.

Life Snapshot

  • Ledger’s back at daycare and absolutely loving it
  • An 18-mile run on Sunday, despite nerves, hills from hell and a body still coming back online
  • Legs and hips wanted to quit… lungs felt strong (a huge win)
  • January didn’t start how I imagined, but the vision is still very much alive

One Last Thing

January forced me to slow down. The flu made that decision for me.

But slowing down didn’t mean stopping.

The grind doesn’t disappear just because life intervenes. The goals are still there. The needle still needs to move. And now? It’s time to pick the workouts back up, rebuild momentums and keep preparing for what’s ahead.

Not with pressure.

With intention.

Progress doesn’t require perfection, it requires consistency after the pause.

Closing

Thanks for being here and spending a few minutes with my thoughts this week. If January hasn’t gone exactly how you planned, you’re not behind, you’re just adjusting.

Take what you have. Do what you can. And keep moving forward.

Let’s just enjoy this.

Hey you, January came in hot. Like “testing every system you thought was solid” kind of hot. Flu. Ice storms. Daycare closures. Travel. Early mornings. A knee that decided to speak up at the worst possible time. And yet… here we are. Fourteen days out from my first marathon. Still standing. Still trying. Still adjusting. This week was less about crushing goals and more about staying regulated, present and committed, even when the plan kept changing. One Thing to Think About This Week Progress...

Hey you, I’m writing this one from a week that asked for a little extra preparation, a little more patience and a lot of mental uhh flexibility. The kind of week where you don’t force productivity, but you support yourself through it. Let’s get into it. One Thing to Think About This Week Preparation isn’t fear. It’s care. This week reminded me that being prepared doesn’t mean you’re panicking, it means you’re paying attention. Whether it’s researching generators (cuz we did that), worrying...

Hey you, This week was heavy. I thought it was going to be, “yay back to work I go”… but plans changed. Not in a dramatic way, just one of those weeks where everything stacks at once and there’s no room to fall apart. Yup… Let’s Reset One Thing to Think About This Week This week reminded me why systems matter most when life is loud. I did everything I could not to get sick. Vitamins, supplements, all the preventative things. Mads got the flu first. Then Ledger. And despite my best efforts… I...
