Gas Leak Scares, Goodbyes, and What Really Matters

Hey you,

This week was a heavy one. It reminded me how quickly life can change—and how in the moments that matter most, everything becomes really simple. A gas leak scare, a heartbreaking goodbye to Charlie, and a lot of moments that made me pause and realize what truly matters: the people (and pets) I love.

Let’s reset together.

One Thing to Think About This Week

When everything feels uncertain, what truly matters becomes crystal clear.

The gas line in our kitchen made a terrifying noise, and suddenly, it was go-time. I grabbed the baby, dogs, wife, and wallet… and that was it. We left the house with no shoes, pajamas still on, not even grabbing essentials like diaper bags or passports.

In that moment, it was painfully obvious: the rest can be replaced.

And the same week, we had to say goodbye to our Charlie boy. Holding him, being with him, loving him—that was all that mattered.

So here’s a question to sit with:

If you had just 30 seconds to grab what matters most… what would you choose?

Celebrate Your Wins

  • We showed up for life even when it was hard. That counts.
  • I stayed grounded during a scary gas leak and all the things this week brought.
  • We gave Charlie all our love during his final days and honored his life with care.

Sometimes the win is just showing up and staying present when your heart feels heavy.

Productivity Hack of the Week

Emergency filter: What would you take with you?

This week gave me an unexpected clarity tool: if it’s not something I’d grab in a moment of crisis, maybe it doesn’t need so much of my energy.

Try applying that lens to your to-do list. What actually matters? What’s just noise?

What I’m Into This Week

  • Music: Rediscovered Kris Allen (yep, the guy from American Idol 2009) and blasted his 2024 album while trimming the bushes.
  • YouTube rabbit hole: Rewatching old videos of our life before kids. There’s something oddly healing about remembering who you were before everything changed.
  • Reflection Mode: Listening to nothing. Just thinking. Remembering. Letting the silence do its job.

Life Snapshot

  • Personal Wins: Took time to sit in the yard, even after the loss. Mowed, trimmed, reflected, felt it all (especially when I got a bush clipping stuck in my eye for 2 days :) )
  • Family Moments: Shared stories, cried together, and found comfort in each other through Charlie’s goodbye.
  • Real-Life Relatability: I felt so depleted by the end of the week. Like I needed a break but couldn’t take one. And that’s real. Sometimes we just dig ourselves out, one slow scoop at a time.

One Last Thing

Charlie reminded me what love looks like—quiet, constant, comforting.

He stayed close in his final days—like he knew. And all we could do was be there.

Sometimes presence is the only thing we can give—and the most powerful thing of all.

Let that be your reminder this week: your presence is enough. You don’t have to fix it all. You just have to show up.

Fun P.S.

Amid all the chaos, community showed up. Friends came to say goodbye to Charlie bearing gifts, and a few days later, we ended up watching old YouTube videos from when we first moved to Austin—cringe and gold all at once.

We hit Top Golf for Taran’s birthday, and I randomly popped by Mike and Dree’s after my MRI just because.

Sometimes the best reset isn’t a solo one—it’s laughing with people who knew you before life got this wild.

Until next Sunday—go hug someone you love.

And if you need help figuring out what really matters in your world right now, I’m here for that too.

💛

Hey you, This week was heavy in the best way. Competing in DEKA Fit, watching Alex Bradley walk across the country, and feeling Papa John’s presence in our home—all reminded me: sometimes showing up feels like surrender, but it’s actually strength. One Thing to Think About This Week What does surrender mean to you? In DEKA Fit, my mind spun: why’d I sign up, this is dumb, halfway is too far… but by the end, I felt proud, strong, and grateful for my team. Then I watched the BPN Documentary:...

Hey you, This week was a mix of ordinary routines and big reminders. Mom and Kevin left Monday, and it was back to business as usual. Ledger had his 15-month appointment — still in the 90th percentile, still growing like a champ. Watching him learn is like playing Mario Brothers: level up, try the new thing, and occasionally need a distraction before the tantrum boss battle. That got me thinking… maybe that’s all life really is. Distractions, little to-dos, leveling up, and remembering the...

Hey you, This week was about presence. My mom and stepdad Kevin came into town for my mom’s birthday, and we kept it simple: family time, good food, pool hangs, and a lot of being where our feet were. No big agendas, just slowing down and enjoying life together. Phones down. More living, less scrolling. That was the goal. One Thing to Think About This Week If you’re not here, you’re there. We all know how easy it is to drift out of the moment, but this weekend we tried to really make a point...
