Life Isn’t a Solo Game | Community, Checkpoints & Distractions

Hey you,

This week was a mix of ordinary routines and big reminders. Mom and Kevin left Monday, and it was back to business as usual. Ledger had his 15-month appointment — still in the 90th percentile, still growing like a champ.

Watching him learn is like playing Mario Brothers: level up, try the new thing, and occasionally need a distraction before the tantrum boss battle.

That got me thinking… maybe that’s all life really is. Distractions, little to-dos, leveling up, and remembering the right things at the right time.

One Thing to Think About This Week

Our attention span is trash. You open your phone to add toilet paper to your grocery list, and suddenly you’re watching dog videos. Three days later, you’re cursing yourself in the bathroom. Instead of letting distractions win, build a system that works for you. For me, it’s my to-do list. Not just tasks, but birthdays, quotes, lessons, things I don’t want to lose.

It’s not about the tool — it’s about giving your brain permission to remember later.

Celebrate Your Wins

I finally did it — took Ledger down to Lady Bird Lake and walked/jogged 3 miles. The drive and logistics were my mental roadblock, but once we were out there? Magical. Sweaty, but magical. Sometimes the path isn’t the problem — it’s overthinking the path.

Productivity Hack of the Week

Try the “Today & Someday” system. I use TickTick, but you can use Notes, Reminders, whatever.

  • Today bucket: What actually matters today.
  • Someday bucket: Things you want to remember but don’t need to do now. When you have free time, peek at the “Someday” bucket instead of scrolling. It’s like productive snacking.

What I’m Into This Week

  • App: TickTick (Today/Someday buckets are saving me).
  • Video: Vinh on Diary of a CEO — brilliant breakdown on communication and storytelling.
  • Big Idea: Community is everything. Being at Alex Bradley’s send-off for his 100-day walk across America made me think of how many lives could change if people had access to the right support.

Life Snapshot

Ledger’s memory blows me away — he sees something once and wants to do it. He’s teaching me that distraction isn’t always bad. Sometimes it’s just redirection. Instead of “no, not the dog’s water bowl,” it’s “hey, let’s sweep the floor.” That tiny shift works in parenting and life.

One Last Thing

School gave us structure. Clear assignments, quarters, semesters. But adulthood? They just hand you the keys and say, “Go fulfill your dreams.” No structure, no checkpoints. And then we wonder why we procrastinate.

That’s why community, coaches, and support systems matter. You weren’t designed to do this alone.

Fun P.S.

Walking/Jogging with Ledger around Lady Bird was so much fun. Watching him point and say “doggy!” Or “Wa-wa!” Multiple times was the best. He made so many people smile or giggle along the way. Watching him see things for the first time was pure magic. Presence is so powerful. Be where your feet are!

If anything stuck with you this week, it’s this: stop trying to do it all solo. Find your checkpoints, build your community, and don’t be afraid to ask for support.

👉 If you’ve been trying to level up alone and it’s not working, reply to this email. Let’s chat about what kind of structure and support could make all the difference for you.

Hey you, This week was heavy in the best way. Competing in DEKA Fit, watching Alex Bradley walk across the country, and feeling Papa John’s presence in our home—all reminded me: sometimes showing up feels like surrender, but it’s actually strength. One Thing to Think About This Week What does surrender mean to you? In DEKA Fit, my mind spun: why’d I sign up, this is dumb, halfway is too far… but by the end, I felt proud, strong, and grateful for my team. Then I watched the BPN Documentary:...

Hey you, This week was about presence. My mom and stepdad Kevin came into town for my mom’s birthday, and we kept it simple: family time, good food, pool hangs, and a lot of being where our feet were. No big agendas, just slowing down and enjoying life together. Phones down. More living, less scrolling. That was the goal. One Thing to Think About This Week If you’re not here, you’re there. We all know how easy it is to drift out of the moment, but this weekend we tried to really make a point...

Hey you, Man… how fragile and unpredictable life is. News of big names passing—like Hulk Hogan and Ozzy Osbourne—makes you pause and think: if my time came tomorrow, would I feel like I spent it on what mattered most? And funny enough, that thought connected right back to our week at home. We weren’t doing anything flashy—just cleaning the garage, pulling weeds, breaking down recycling, and hanging out as a family in the driveway. Ledger loves a task, so he was in full force, game mode. It...
