Surrender, Struggle, and Showing Up

Hey you,

This week was heavy in the best way. Competing in DEKA Fit, watching Alex Bradley walk across the country, and feeling Papa John’s presence in our home—all reminded me: sometimes showing up feels like surrender, but it’s actually strength.

One Thing to Think About This Week

What does surrender mean to you?

In DEKA Fit, my mind spun: why’d I sign up, this is dumb, halfway is too far… but by the end, I felt proud, strong, and grateful for my team.

Then I watched the BPN Documentary: Surrender, where 132 runners pushed until weather shut them down—not because they quit, but because the storm forced it.

And I thought of Alex Bradley, who’s been walking 27 miles a day toward Oregon for over a week to fight for mental health and suicide prevention. His persistence—step after step, day after day—has been heavy on my heart.

Surrender isn’t weakness. Sometimes it’s giving up control, sharing the weight, or simply admitting: “I need help.” Strength isn’t always pushing harder—it’s knowing when and how to keep moving forward.

Celebrate Your Wins

  • DEKA Fit Duo: Zane and I strategized quick, shared the weight, and crushed it. My body surprised me, my mind tried to trick me, but the team pulled through. Madison, Ledger, and friends cheering? Heart full.
  • Community Check-Ins: Voice memos to my peeps—real connection in small ways.
  • Family Joy: Dinner + Husker win to close the night. Ledger’s smile when he sees me = better than any medal.
  • Presence: Papa John’s presence has been heavy in our home this week. It’s funny how someone’s presence lingers and teaches you new lessons even when they’re gone.

Productivity Hack of the Week

Stop building stories. Start asking why.

I catch myself making up whole narratives:

  • What I think someone wants from me.
  • What I think my body is telling me.
  • What I think my mind is trying to say.

But when I pause and just ask: “Why? What do you actually want here? What’s the goal? What are we really trying to accomplish?”—the fog clears.

It works at work. It works mid-workout. It works in life. The stories are heavier than the truth, and the truth usually takes one question to uncover.

What I’m Into This Week

  • Book: Jay put me onto a new one—the life-changing magic of tidying up
  • App/Tech: Voice Memos, aka “brain uncloggers.” Built right into your phone
  • YouTube: BPN Documentary: Surrender. A 4.2 mile loop, every hour, until only one remains. Two runners went until a storm stopped them—not failure, but grit.
  • Instagram: Follow Alex Bradley—he’s walking from Austin to Oregon, 27 miles a day, raising awareness for mental health and suicide prevention. Ways to support: The Next Step Movement.

Life Snapshot

  • Personal Wins: DEKA Fit completed. Hip pain didn’t hold me back and it’s actually gone now. wow
  • Family Moments: Madison and Ledger cheering me on at the event. Family hangs + football.
  • Real-Life Relatability: I somehow got gas on my shirt and couldn’t get the smell out of my nose all day. Changed my shirt, washed my hands 10200 times. Wild

One Last Thing

This week, three things collided: a race that tested my body, a man walking across the country for a cause, and the quiet weight of Papa John’s presence in our house.

All of them taught me the same thing: life isn’t about doing it all alone or perfectly. It’s about taking the next step, sharing the load, and remembering that surrender can be sacred—not a sign of quitting, but of courage.

Mini mantra: “Keep moving. Keep asking. Keep remembering.”

Fun P.S.

Ledger and I took on Lady Bird Lake—3 miles of banana-fueled, matcha-powered strolling. He pointed at every splash of water and every dog that passed like it was the first time he’d ever seen either. The drive always feels “ugh,” but the joy was so worth it. Definitely adding this to our regular adventures. 🐶💦🍌

Hey you, This week was a mix of ordinary routines and big reminders. Mom and Kevin left Monday, and it was back to business as usual. Ledger had his 15-month appointment — still in the 90th percentile, still growing like a champ. Watching him learn is like playing Mario Brothers: level up, try the new thing, and occasionally need a distraction before the tantrum boss battle. That got me thinking… maybe that’s all life really is. Distractions, little to-dos, leveling up, and remembering the...

Hey you, This week was about presence. My mom and stepdad Kevin came into town for my mom’s birthday, and we kept it simple: family time, good food, pool hangs, and a lot of being where our feet were. No big agendas, just slowing down and enjoying life together. Phones down. More living, less scrolling. That was the goal. One Thing to Think About This Week If you’re not here, you’re there. We all know how easy it is to drift out of the moment, but this weekend we tried to really make a point...

Hey you, Man… how fragile and unpredictable life is. News of big names passing—like Hulk Hogan and Ozzy Osbourne—makes you pause and think: if my time came tomorrow, would I feel like I spent it on what mattered most? And funny enough, that thought connected right back to our week at home. We weren’t doing anything flashy—just cleaning the garage, pulling weeds, breaking down recycling, and hanging out as a family in the driveway. Ledger loves a task, so he was in full force, game mode. It...
