Golf Carts, Ocean Laughs, and a Missing Voice

Hey You,

This week was a mashup of firsts: my first week in a leadership role at work (…while out of office), our first family beach trip with another family, and my first time losing my voice in a while.

Ledger was out of school, so I took the whole week off with a plan — deep clean the house, check off all the lingering tasks, maybe even sneak in a little quiet time. But then Ledger dropped down to one nap a day and I learned that if you glance at your phone for five minutes, you’re already behind.

By Thursday, the deep clean list was barely touched, but we were off to Port Aransas for a long weekend at Cinnamon Shores with our friends Kyle and Julie — and their 7-week-old, Atlas.

One Thing to Think About This Week

The “ideal trip” you picture in your head and the one you actually have are rarely the same. But when you focus on the right moments — like Ledger’s face lighting up when his feet hit the ocean — you realize those are the parts worth remembering.

Celebrate Your Wins

  • Posted Alex Bradley’s podcast about his walk to the place his best friend took his last breath
  • Ran over 3 miles with Ledger in the stroller for the first time (even sped up at the end because he was bored).
  • Aligned with Mads on daily responsibilities — no more guessing who’s on Ledger duty.
  • Survived our first beach trip as a family with another family, in peak Texas heat.

Productivity Hack of the Week

Evening check-ins work magic. Mads and I now take two minutes before bed to talk through who’s doing what the next day. It’s saved us from the “I thought you were doing that” morning chaos.

What I’m Into This Week

  • App: Trusted Housesitters — we used the same family for the 8th time to watch our dogs while we traveled.
  • Tech: My Garmin watch, which told me my “body battery” was starting at 40% during the trip. Spoiler: it was right — I was sick.
  • Audiobook: Listening to Audiobooks at 1.5-2.0 speed. (I noticed I don’t follow along on 2.0 speed very well. Do you also have that issue?)

Life Snapshot

  • Personal Wins: Ran 3.75 miles, grocery shopped, deep-cleaned… a little.
  • Family Moments: Ledger walked into the ocean holding Madison’s hand, laughing and squealing with joy.
  • Real-Life Relatability: Lost my voice halfway through the trip, battled head pressure and congestion, and still powered through beach days, fishing, and pool time.

One Last Thing

Sometimes the “relaxing getaway” is actually the “chaotic memory-maker.” The best part? Both are worth it.

I want to hear from you — what’s one “chaotic memory” from a trip that still makes you laugh or smile when you think about it? Hit reply and share it with me (bonus points if it involves kids, pets, or travel fails).

Fun P.S.

Highlight of the trip (besides Ledger’s ocean debut): watching Kyle try to get his baby to sleep by putting a blanket over both their heads like some kind of stealth mission.

Hey you, This week was heavy in the best way. Competing in DEKA Fit, watching Alex Bradley walk across the country, and feeling Papa John’s presence in our home—all reminded me: sometimes showing up feels like surrender, but it’s actually strength. One Thing to Think About This Week What does surrender mean to you? In DEKA Fit, my mind spun: why’d I sign up, this is dumb, halfway is too far… but by the end, I felt proud, strong, and grateful for my team. Then I watched the BPN Documentary:...

Hey you, This week was a mix of ordinary routines and big reminders. Mom and Kevin left Monday, and it was back to business as usual. Ledger had his 15-month appointment — still in the 90th percentile, still growing like a champ. Watching him learn is like playing Mario Brothers: level up, try the new thing, and occasionally need a distraction before the tantrum boss battle. That got me thinking… maybe that’s all life really is. Distractions, little to-dos, leveling up, and remembering the...

Hey you, This week was about presence. My mom and stepdad Kevin came into town for my mom’s birthday, and we kept it simple: family time, good food, pool hangs, and a lot of being where our feet were. No big agendas, just slowing down and enjoying life together. Phones down. More living, less scrolling. That was the goal. One Thing to Think About This Week If you’re not here, you’re there. We all know how easy it is to drift out of the moment, but this weekend we tried to really make a point...
