Sharpen the Saw & Embrace the Chaos

Hey you,

This week was the kind that makes you grateful and a little frazzled at the same time.

We road-tripped back home from OKC, skipped the usual Sunday reset, and let’s just say… the week definitely felt that. From sourdough blueberry muffins and stolen iPads to home workouts and birthday celebrations—we had a little bit of everything.

Let’s reset together.

One Thing to Think About This Week

“If you don’t stop to sharpen your saw, you’re no good.”

Skipping our usual Sunday reset seemed harmless… until the week hit like a damn freight train. Everything felt behind—physically, mentally, even emotionally.

It reminded me of that story about the two lumberjacks:

One chops nonstop.

The other pauses to sharpen his saw.

Guess who cuts down more trees?

The one who took breaks to sharpen up.

Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is stop. Breathe. Reset. Build your energy and skills so you’re not just swinging wildly—you’re actually making progress.

Celebrate Your Wins

  • 🛠️ Got our pool lights fixed—under warranty (score).
  • 🥵 Started the week sweaty with a treadmill run and interval workout.
  • 🪑 Bought a new office chair from someone downsizing to live a nomadic life—and had the most random conversations about purpose and paths. It was wildly amazing crossing paths with him. I wish him well on his journey.
  • 🎂 Celebrated Madison’s birthday with sushi, toddler tacos, and one very happy baby and wife.

Productivity Hack of the Week

Bullet Journal + Digital Crossover

I’ve been using a new hybrid productivity system: Confluence/Apple Notes for digital structure + bullet journaling to actually feel the days.

Simple tip: use a symbol system. I use

• for tasks

x for done tasks

o for an event/meeting

>for migrated to the next day

>> for migrated digitally

Helps me track what slips through the cracks, especially during chaotic weeks like this one.

What I’m Into This Week

  • Show:Quarterback on Netflix — Season 2 just dropped, and it’s so fun to watch. You get to see the grit behind these athletes, the pressure they carry, and how it all ripples into their families. It’s raw, human, and super motivating.
  • App: Apple Notes — Simple, searchable, and my go-to for dumping quick podcast ideas, workout notes, or even collab planning with Madison. We use it for travel checklists and things to prep before trips. It’s not fancy, but it works fast.
  • [Song/Other](https://open.spotify.com/album/5vD5M5VW62LL78Ko8x0CVZ): Justin Bieber’s new album SWAG — It’s powerful watching someone who gets so much public hate still rise above the noise and create something deeply personal. This album feels like a creative reset. New music that’s truly him. For him. By him. And you can feel it.

Life Snapshot

  • Personal Wins: Knocked out another DEKA-style workout in the home gym, even though I was wiped. Didn’t skip it. Just adjusted it.
  • Family Moments: Ledger devoured Mexican food like a tiny food critic, and even crushed a walk with us post-dinner.
  • Real-Life Relatability: We came back from a trip and totally did not do our reset. The result? A week that felt off balance. It’s real—and we’ll do better next time.

One Last Thing

Sometimes it’s not about how much you got done. It’s about knowing when to stop, reset, and breathe.

You can’t pour from an empty cup. This week was a beautiful reminder that the little pauses—like a walk with Ledger, a dinner at the table, or even just a few extra deep breaths—do count.

So here's your reminder:
Don’t wait until everything’s on fire to take a break.
Pause. Reflect. Reset.
Then come back stronger.

If this hit home for you, hit reply and tell me what your version of “sharpening the saw” looks like. I’d love to hear it.

Fun P.S.

Madison’s birthday day was a whole vibe—sushi, gymnastics, Mexican food outside (It was honestly sooo hot out tho), and a moment where we just sat there like, “Wow, this is our life now.”

Nothing wild or Pinterest-worthy. Just love, laughter, and low-key chaos. 10/10 would celebrate again (but not forgetting Ledgers shoes/stroller at home this time.. making the car ride a bit too long for L).

Hey you, This week was heavy in the best way. Competing in DEKA Fit, watching Alex Bradley walk across the country, and feeling Papa John’s presence in our home—all reminded me: sometimes showing up feels like surrender, but it’s actually strength. One Thing to Think About This Week What does surrender mean to you? In DEKA Fit, my mind spun: why’d I sign up, this is dumb, halfway is too far… but by the end, I felt proud, strong, and grateful for my team. Then I watched the BPN Documentary:...

Hey you, This week was a mix of ordinary routines and big reminders. Mom and Kevin left Monday, and it was back to business as usual. Ledger had his 15-month appointment — still in the 90th percentile, still growing like a champ. Watching him learn is like playing Mario Brothers: level up, try the new thing, and occasionally need a distraction before the tantrum boss battle. That got me thinking… maybe that’s all life really is. Distractions, little to-dos, leveling up, and remembering the...

Hey you, This week was about presence. My mom and stepdad Kevin came into town for my mom’s birthday, and we kept it simple: family time, good food, pool hangs, and a lot of being where our feet were. No big agendas, just slowing down and enjoying life together. Phones down. More living, less scrolling. That was the goal. One Thing to Think About This Week If you’re not here, you’re there. We all know how easy it is to drift out of the moment, but this weekend we tried to really make a point...
